Play is where your child builds thinking skills and language concepts. Play also motivates your child to engage with the world and participate with others. Keep your activities fun as you share activities together.

Object permanence becomes well established during this level. Your child understands that symbols can represent ideas as well as objects. They can use words to communicate.

Your child understands that a hidden item has to exist, so they persist in a search. They can be really snoopy, too, because they can imagine there are items hiding inside drawers and cupboards.

Today’s activity: Hide an interesting object under 3 cups or bowls. Mix them up so your child has to search under all of them to find the item. Ask, “Where is it?” with the gesture for “I don’t know.” Let your child use (play with or eat) the the item they find.
